ROMANTIC COMEDY OPENING SEQUENCE 3
COMING TO AMERICA
- The opening scene of 'Coming to America' follows the typical codes and conventions of romantic comedies by establishing the setting and location as a palace, indicating that the story is first set somewhere totally different to where the film transgresses towards getting to America, made evident in the title
- The opening sequence doesn't reveal much of the plot of the film, but mainly establishes setting and location. Giving the audience the idea that some sort of wealthy people are involved with in the story line
- An establishing shot of the palace gives a sense of environment and sets the mood of the film
- The non-diegetic music too sets a mood of happiness and joyfulness
